Original Description:
One of several vintage bags of old, unattributed and uncleaned coins.
Although this bank bag full of thousands of Medieval coins is dated June 1949, the entire bag, along with a bag of ancient coins (300 BC to 300AD) and colonial era coins (1500s to 1700s) was purchased from Lloyds and the buyer and former owner, Mr. Stephen Hahn, was told by one of the managers of Lloyds Bank, Mr. Noel Thomas, that this "Is a much older accumulation of Medievalcoins from several deca...des long before 1949”.

According to Mr. Hahn, “Lloyds had combined several collections from several of their clients, during and before World I and War II", before Noel Thomas finally offered them for sale" to Mr. Hahn, who asked about buying any of their old coinPriced below wholesale, we're offering several lots of these in quantities of up to 500, and the more you buy, the better the price.  These are unsearched, unattributed for rare varieties and some may or may not be rare or one-of-a-kind.NOTE:  We are not experts in these and do not assert any specific grades nor conditions, as even the best "experts" often disagree on subjective quality.  Extensive research reveals that many cannot be located in our library of seven reference books onThese wholesale lots should be a lot of fun figuring out what's what although at this low price, a lot of these have little details overall; or on one side or the other.  Founded in England in 1765, over 250 years ago, Lloyds Bank of London, England has traditionally been considered one of the oldest on-going "Big Four" exchange/clearing banks.  For generations, Lloyds Bank was the primary exchanging agent for coinage from all over the Americas, Europe, and The British Empire which expanded into the Far East, India, Africa and the Middle East, where many Medieval could still be found and exchange centuries after the European invasion.  Since coin dealers were few and far between up until the 1950s, it was not uncommon for people who inherited old coins to simply deposit them in the bank, where Lloyd's and other banks became coin dealers to an extent, often selling to bullion dealers, retail numismatists, museums and antiquities merchants.Lloyds expanded during the 1800s and 1900s centuries and now maintains deposits of nearly one trillion U.S. dollars, still trading in currencies from all over the world.  During World War II, both Lloyds and The Royal Mint of London were hit three times during "The Blitz" or Nazi bombing, starting in December 1940 when three members of staff were killed in an air-raid. The same fate happened to many branches of Lloyds bank, while Nazi propagandists were flooding the British economy with counterfeit currency.  In desperation, the leadership at Lloyds Bank were instrumental in convincing mint officials to attempt a set up of an auxiliary mint.  When a shortage of coins continued due to hoarding, Lloyds continued to test and certify genuine coinage and carried out its tradition of accepting coinage from around the world, including coins at or above melt value.
