You are bidding on a gold 1 Solidus coin from the Byzantine Empire that was minted between 567 to 578 A.D.. This coin was minted when the Byzantine Empire was ruled by the Emperor Justin II who reigned from 565 to 578 A.D.. The obverse design of the coin features a pearl diademed, helmeted and cuirassed bust of Justin II facing forward while holding in his right hand a small figure of Victory holding a wreath on a globe and on his left arm a shield with a horseman a...nd the reverse design of the coin features an image of Constantinopolis seated facing forward on a throne with her head facing right while holding a spear in her right hand and a globus cruciger in her left hand. This coin was minted at the Antioch mint. This coin is considered to be a lightweight solidus of 20 siliquae and measures 20 mm in diameter and weighs 4.02 grams. This coin is listed as S#376 in Sear's Byzantine Coins And Their Values. This coin was originally purchased by me from Heritage Auctions in January 2019. It was listed as being in very fine(VF) condition with scratches on the reverse of the coin. The coin looks very nice as you can see from the posted photos but please look at the posted photos and make your own determination as to the overall grade and appearance of this coin.
