2006 - W $100 AMERICAN PLATINUM EAGLE 1 OZ BURNISHED PCGS MS70 TRUE
Item History & Price
I'm selling my collection. Most items are in auction format, with $.99 beginnings.
This is a special item. This coin is a $100 Uncirculated Burnished American Platinum Eagle, produced by the U.S. Mint at West Point.
In 2006, the U.S. Mint began a series of themed reverses on Platinum issues, on specially-prepared burnished planchets. The 2006 reverse theme was the same as the one on the Platinum Proof coins that year, celebrating the first of the three branches of Constitutional ...government in the "Foundations of American Democracy" series. This first design featured the Legislative Muse, representing the nation's law, with eagles perched on two Corinthian columns, representing the Senate and the House of Representatives. The beautiful reverse design was the artwork of Joel Iskowitz, and was based on the statue "The Car of History" by Carlo Franzoni.
These and subsequent special Platinum coins were the result of a wonderful outburst of artistic creativity at the Mint, a resurgence that recalled the glory years of U.S. coin design in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
In addition, this coin was authenticated, certified and graded in 2006 as a perfect MS-70 by the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS), and contains 1 ounce of pure platinum. PCGS also designated the coin First Strike, i.e., it was graded within 30 days of its initial release.
Only a minuscule 3, 068 of these coins were sold, which represented an all-time-low mintage for the series. Of these, only 680 have ever been graded a perfect MS-70 by PCGS (429 of which were designated First Strike), making this a genuine modern rarity.
This coin is pristine and absolutely unblemished as the day of issue (see photos). It has been in my possession since 2006.
A great opportunity to acquire a perfect, attractive and exceedingly scarce precious metal coin in Platinum, while Platinum is near historic lows and has just started to move back up in price.
True auction with low start! Good luck!
