Vintage C1969 Olivetti " Valentine " Typewriter Designed By Ettore Sottsass

Ettore Sottsass designed the Valentine typewriter with Perry A. King for Olivetti in 1969.The plastic Valentine, "which is as light as a feather", was immediately called a design icon and takes pride of place in many design museums around the world. It is a wonderful example of Italian design, with its orange spools and bright red plastic casing.This typewriter was the "I Pad" of its day, the designer Sottsass described it as “A Biro amongst typewriters” he wanted this typewriter ...to be used "any place but an office".The plastic casing to the typewriter does not have any cracks or splits that I can find, however, it does have the usual wear marks that you would associate with its' age and use, these are mainly to the top where the machine has been taken in and out of the carrying case. There is a small dent and paint chip to the metal, of the roller frame where the carriage return lever folds away.The metal work still has its'chrome finish and the keys and space bar work well. Both of the ribbon caps are present.The typewriter types well.The rubber catches to the protective case are intact, they do have a little surface cracking, but are still strong and sturdy.
