World War I U.S. 128th Machine Gun Battalion Battle Flag WOW! The trench headquarters battle flag of the 128th Machine Gun Battalion of the 35th Division of the American Expeditionary Force in France during World War I. This came out of an estate sale many years ago. The Division saw extensive battle service. Approximately 24 inches by 23 inches complete (excluding ties) wit...h upper and lower twin ties (about 12 inches long) and center loop (about 2.25 inches long). “128” to center of white corner to corner cross against red background. Multi-piece stitched construction, the flag is made up of 7 panels (4 red triangles and 3 pieces for the cross). “128” stitched as individual numbers in a patch on both sides. Thus, flag displays correctly on both sides. LOOK AT THE PICTURES THAT SHOW BOTH SIDES FOR OVERALL CONDITION SHOWING DAMAGE AND STAINS. The flag has some damage – minor tear here and there and what appears to be some small shrapnel damage and is stained but is complete. It has not been cleaned and hasn’t been ironed. It is as it was. I believe some of the stains are blood as it looks like old blood stains, but I have not tested it. Regardless, this flag is real and it was there at St. Mihiel, the battle of the Meuse-Argonne Offensive and the Defense Sector with the 128th Machine Gun Battalion of the 35th Division.
