Produced (in very small numbers) by Allan McCulloch of South Australia in 1948, it is very similar to the early GEE BEE 2, which was also produced in SA by Gordon Burford.
According to Maris Dislers' excellent book, "GB's Model Engines", Allan McCulloch was involved with early Burford production. (Page 3- 4)
The similarities are striking, both being fairly close copies of Leon Schulman's Dron...e of the previous year.
This particular example is in superb condition, and apparently they were offered in the 1948 "Model Aircraft Industries" price list at 9 Pounds and 9 Shillings, a princely-sum in those days .
Nothing is bent, broken or otherwise butchered, and it appears to have had very little use.
The signature red finished crankcase has been restored, and the the NVA is perhaps not original although without another to compare it looks age appropriate.
The motor turns over smoothly with good compression.
The display box is not original, but serves to protect and enhance the beauty of this rare gem.
Please view all images as they best depict the extraordinary condition of this seminal piece of the fledgling, post war, model engine production in Australia.
