From the note to reader: "There are, who Languages a Mysterie would make that yet does undiscover'd lye; Boasting the Spaniard lofty, Toscan sweet, and airy French to pace with graceful feet; Whose well-tun'd Layes, in Times, than Ours, less rude, by some, whose hasty Vanity t'intrude into the Press, having been rendred hoarse, sense, and by words, massacred without remorse: They, by Fantastic-prejudice, condemn Young Travellers infection, root and stem Of all Translations; as implicitly. As some damn all who on a Scaffold dye. But tis not now, as when Squire Jeffrey liv'd: The Tongue's not cramp'd ere it can be repriev'd: Words, here, are facil, apt, significant; Such, as not make the Sense too wide, nor scant. His Pen not racks the Reader, as some do, but gives us ease, pleasure, and profit too. He is our understanding's Opstick; We, by such a Perspective much clearer see. The map of Italy's choice Language, here, To British eyes, in Landskip does appear..."

According to Wikipedia: "Guido Bentivoglio d'Aragona (4 October 1579 – 7 September 1644) was an Italian cardinal, statesman and historian... He arrived in Brussels when negotiations between the Habsburgs and the Dutch Republic to end the Eighty Years' War were about to begin. Following the conclusion of the Twelve Years' Truce in April 1609, he was greatly concerned with the position of Catholicism in the Republic. Accredited to a Habsburg court, he likewise took a keen interest in the final stages of the reign and the succession of Emperor Rudolf II. Three more topics occupied a great deal of his time: the struggle over the Jülich-Cleves inheritance, [2] which was set to ignite the Thirty Years War, the flight of the prince de Condé from France in objection to Henri IV's divorce and remarriage, [3] and the degree of toleration for Catholics in England and Ireland under James I. His correspondence reveals Bentivoglio as "the skilled diplomatist, [4] polished by constant intercourse with the most refined society, as well as the mature observer, " according to Ludwig Pastor"..."

Also According to Wikipedia: "Henry Carey, 2nd Earl of Monmouth, KB (15 January 1596 – 13 June 1661) was an English nobleman and translator. Carey translated Virgilio Malvezzi's Romulus and Tarquin from the original Italian in 1637, and Giovanni Biondi's An History of the Civill Warres of England.. in 1641, also from the Italian. The Complete History of the Wars of Flanders, by Cardinal Guido Bentivoglio, followed in 1654..."
