Very Rare Antique German Desk Paper Holder Jumping Dog Cold Painted Bronze 1800s
Item History & Price

The dog has most of its original paint but it definitely has darkened over the years. It has the original wood base that is in excellent condition. I'm not sure what type of ...wood but it is definitely high quality. The dog himself measures 9.75" long and the wood base is 12.5" x a little over 5". It is quite heavy weighing almost 3 pounds. The condition is excellent. There's no broken or missing pieces and it works great. The quality of this sculpture is so good I'd expect to see a signature but I couldn't find anything. The bottom has original green felt.
I have seen many very small cold painted bronze and brass figures but I've never seen anything like this one. In the era of rotary fans and no air-conditioning, a paperweight was a must-have item on your desk. In a way, this is basically a paperweight / paper holder.
Do not pass this up as you'll probably never see another one. It was a hard decision to sell this from my collection. I'm starting this at a very reasonable $325. I believe this has quite a bit more value than what I am starting at.
