Matchbox Lesney Fire Station Gift Set G - 10 Cream Face 4 Mods VNM Boxes
Item History & Price
FROM MY PERSONAL COLLECTION. One (1) Lesney 1963 issue Matchbox hard-to-find Fire Station G-10 Gift Set includes Accessory Building MF-1-A2 with cream front, off white elsewhere, without embossed brick; grey forecourt and base; red roof and trim; four comtemporary fire station theme models, originally sold in the G-10. They are as follows: T...wo 9c late issue Merryweather Marquis Series III Fire Engines (Stannard codes 13 gold ladder, and 14 silver ladder), one Bedford LCC Lomas Ambulance (Stannard code 17), and one 59b Ford Fairlane Fire Chief's Car (Stannard code 5). Both the MF-1 and the models are in their original boxes, all of which are in top condition grade, very well preserved, absolutely un-played (no repairs done or necessary, no shop tags, and no closure fold fatigue whatsoever). NOTE small tear on one corner of the blue side of the large box. All sides of the boxes can be seen in the photos and all original closures are present and intact. The MF-1-A2 shows a cream face building, normally associated with a green roof building, but this is the way it came from the factory in 1963; the roof is red and the base light grey with red trim and labels in factory fresh and bright, 100% perfect condition. The models are all VNM condition in their original D type boxes in crisp, bright, rigid, un-fatigued, un-creased condition. This G-10 Gift Set with model building and four fire/emergency theme models is in very near mint overall condition. The Fire Station alone, outside of the G-10 was also introduced in 1963 and was sold in this type and two others based upon colour and label differences (Mack). Additional photographs can be provided up to one day before the end of the auction. These 12 photos capture the overall condition of this beautiful G-10 Gift Set. There will be no surprises.
This paragraph is from "Collecting Matchbox Diecast Toys-The First 40 Years" by Kevin McGimpsey & Stewart Orr, et al., Matchbox International; Major Productions, Ltd.; 1st Edition, Chester, UK 1989, p.253.:
"The Matchbox Fire Station (MF.1) was added to the range in 1963. This accessory was described on the 1966 Collectors Catalogue as being 'made in tough plastic with working double doors, firemen's pole and authentic multi-coloured transfers [labels]. Supplied completely assembled in a giant 'Matchbox'. The Fire Station was available wither as a single item [for] 10s. 6d (52.5p) or as part of the G-10 Gift Set. The station was released with either a green or a red roof, and a grey base which also formed a forecourt. Various labels were applied to add realism to the station. Although an Ambulance Station was developed at the same time in green and white, it was never released and consequently, Lesney used up stocks of green roofs by issuing them as part of the Fire Station".
The base is 23.5 cm wide and 16.5 cm deep. The building is 23 cm wide by 11.75 cm deep by 9.5 cm high, to the top of the gable. All parts of this G-10 Gift Set are present and intact. No cracks. The doors which open INWARD work as they should. The label are in factory fresh, 100% perfect condition. This Matchbox Fire Station G-10 Gift Set will display as new.
