This coveted 60s muscle car is a 1965 Aurora Ford Mustang 2+2 Fastback. The paint is a beautiful metallic green. I don’t know much about slot cars, and have no idea what the official name of this paint color is by Aurora, but I took photos both with and without a flash to give you a very precise idea of the color you are getting. It really pops, and looks g...reat on this vintage car! I can tell you that I tried to find this similar car in this similar shade of green, and struck out… leading me to believe that it’s a rare color combination for this model.
It’s not perfect, but it’s 100% original and very nice! No structural damage, and only very minor paint loss in a couple of places (on high edges and a small spot on the top racing stripes).
I believe the chassis is a Thunderjet HO scale, as that is the set that this came from and everything appeared to be original and untouched for decades. While untested, I suspect it operates as designed. This family took great care of their things, and it was a rather high-end estate.
Please review the pics, selling as-is.
***Check my other auctions if you’re interested in purchasing the 1967 boxed set this came from, or the companion car, a 1960s Ferrari which is also in stunning condition!***

Thanks, good luck and God bless! On Aug-27-19 at 05:40:44 PDT, seller added the following information:Many thanks to a kind eBayer and Aurora slot car enthusiast for the following information...it sounds like this Mustang is from a rare pack:Candy painted green Mustang from a Competition Pac, given to Hobby stores in 1965 for Aurora's nation wide racing program. The candy painted (red, green, blue) cars are extremely rare, but the Competition Pac is the Holy Grail for Aurora collectors. On Aug-27-19 at 15:35:11 PDT, seller added the following information:In regards to questions about possible screw post damage, I’m afraid to take this car apart since I have no experience, but I used a jeweler’s loop and looked at the area around both screws carefully. I see no cracks, it appears to be in normal (undamaged) condition. I am happy to send a few close-up photos to anyone interested...I cannot add more photos to the listing or I would.
Thanks, and good luck!!On Aug-27-19 at 19:09:53 PDT, seller added the following information:Another wonderful eBayer reached out with some more info that I thought I’d share...many thanks to all of you who have given me an Aurora education this week!Bob Beer's book on Aurora HO cars uses rarity scale. #5- very common, #4-common, #3 desirable, #2 very desirable, # 1 rare, # 0 very rare. This car here is rated as a 0 "very rare! Only sold in a scarce "Competition Set with a "Candy Red, Candy green, and Candy Blue 2+2 Mustang along with other racing items in the set. I see red more often for sale than the other two colors. They have made many reproductions of these. The repros I've seen have stripes continuing down below rear window(clear glass part). It seems you have nice original car here!
