The album consecrated to works by MargaritaNikolaevna Gumilevskaya (1895-1985) , art director of the Tarusa decorativeneedlework factory (Kaluga district) from 1928 to 1972. The art of M. N. Gumilevskaya is based upon the nationalneedlework technique known as ...the Kaluga's Colour Perevit' (wrapping stitch onnet in colour thread). This is a type of stitching on cloth turned into a sortof net by pulling threads. Inspired by national traditional ornaments themaster created the works that are very modern in both style and design. Shegave new interpretations to such national traditional motifs as "trees oflife", "peacocks", "solar signs", "dolls", "horseman". The book contains the drawn designs of peasantembroideries collected by M. N. Gumilevskaya in Kaluga country-side, as well asher sketches from the album «Kaluga patterns of colour Perevit'». The book includes acatalogue listing 150 Gumilevskaya's embroideries with the descriptions of techniques, housed in various museums of Russia.
