Commemorating the 30th Anniversary of the conflict between the United Kingdom and Argentina over the sovereignty of the Falkland Islands in the spring of 1982. The book covers the colour schemes and markings of the British and Argentinean aircraft that were used in combat. Featuring such types as the Sea Harrier FRS.1, Harrier GR.3, Avro Vulcan and many more! Fantastic stuff for model makers. The book is very similar to the Guideline Publications colour and markings series - many colour plates and a detailed text.

This book is a collection of aircraft profiles in colour more than anything else. It still opens with a brief summary of the Falklands War though. Once that's out of the way it's on to the profiles. Just browsing through the book gave me the impression that every single aircraft that flew in the war had it's own drawing included, that's how many there are.Most of them are side views, with a four-view page spread every now and then. But unlike in most similar books the views are not always the same sides. Some views are right hand sides, other left hand sides. This is very helpful for me as a modeller, as it allows me to fill in missing details for a particular aircraft by looking at the other drawings. Also the examples where all four sides are shown are very helpful.The book is divided into sections, each dealing with a particular aircraft type. There are 11 pages on the Sea Harrier, displaying all three different schemes in detail (Dark Sea Grey over White, Overall Dark Sea Grey and the Overall Medium Sea Grey scheme). The Harrier GR3 gets 3 pages (8 different side views and one four side view). The Vulcan also has 3 pages, and the Victor has 1. The Nimrod and Chinook share two pages, showing three Nimrod side views and one of the lonely Chinook. Four Hercules side views on two pages complete the British fixed wing aircraft section.This is followed by the British helicopter section. This has 2 pages of Wasp HAS1's, 3 pages of Wessexes, 2 pages of Sea Kings and one with Lynx HAS2's and a half page with 2 Scouts. There are 2 pages with 7 Gazelles to complete the British helicopter part. As a bonus there is a 2-page section on the Phantom (in light grey).
The British section is followed by the Argentine part (what a surprise!). It begins with the Argentine Air Force. Here there are 3 pages on the Mirage III, 4 on the Dagger, 4 on the Air Force Skyhawk, 2 with Puccaras, 2 with Canberras and two with Hercules and an F-27.The Navy is next, with 2 pages of A-4's in the light grey over white scheme with blue and white markings on the tails, 2 pages with Super Etendards (all five of them, including a four side view), 2 pages with T-34's, 2 pages with Aermacchis, an S2F Tracker and a Learjet and one page with 2 side views of Neptunes. The last pages contain mostly Argentine helicopters, with 4 Puma views, 2 Agusta A109's, an F-86 (don't know why its in this part, but there it is), 4 UH-1's, 2 Chinooks, three Armada Sea Kings, 2 B-707's, 2 Short Skyvans and finally a rescue Puma.
Now this book has helped me greatly in determining what aircraft wore what camouflage scheme and markings at what time in the campaign. As such it cannot be faulted. I've found details here that I've never noticed elsewhere. I could only find one point for debate and that's the what specific brown colour was used on Argentine Air Force A-4's of Grupo V de Caza. In this title it's listed as FS30118 Dark Earth. I've compared the colour photographs of these A-4's with Mirage III's and find that the brown on the A-4's is not the same. It is in fact much redder, so the given number here cannot be right. I believe FS30099 is a better match. This however is the only point of criticism I was able to find, so I can only say I'm very pleased with this book. It is unmatched in the amount of data on colours and markings of aircraft in the Falklands conflict
