Begonia Darthvaderiana, Rare Begonia, Rare Terrarium Plant
Item History & Price
Reference Number: Avaluer:8370081 | Plant Form: Plant |
Genus: Begonia |
This species should be grown in terrarium culture only, not an open-air environment. Like many of the more sensitive Begonias, care should be taken not to leave water standing on the leaves, but rather, moistening of the roots directly at the root ba...se to maintain constant high moisture to prevent drying out. I have been growing this species on sphagnum only, but have seen others grow it in potting soil with success. It does not like temperatures above 80F, and should ideally be maintained between 70-75F. Even short spikes above 80F can cause the plant to wilt.
Because this species wilts so easily in high temperatures, I will only be shipping when temperatures are forecasted between 55-75F. I think priority mail will suffice, but I will also be offering overnight service at cost. If you are able to pick up, you are welcome to. I am located in Portland, OR. The plant available is the exact one pictured. It is well established, with 6+ leaves. The newer leaves have the characteristic ‘black’ leaves. (They are really more purple). Immature leaves are reddish/pink and tend to be less resilient to temperature swings. Thank you, Emily
