Everything to love about this amazing vintage lamp! This is a vaporiser as you can see, the upper pan is filled with 'Cresoline' which is claimed to be useful to treat Asthma, Whooping Cough, Spamodic Croup, Catarrh and no doubt a million other things! Truth be told this is far from a snake oil quack device and vaporisers remain popular and potentially very beneficial today. I cant vouch for the Cresoline itself however which was a dark liquid with a pungent smell made from coal tar u...sed in the 19th and early 20th century as a disinfectant and to treat various ailments such as listed above and to the box and pamphlet.A really lovely ornate lamp and terrific to have the great box and rather tatty pamphlet as well! The wick winder is jammed or at least stiff however lamp is complete and appears to have had but little use. It even has a milk glass shade as shown. All glass in excellent condition.
