1938 WEMBLEY LIONS v WEMBLEY MONARCHSGRAND OPENING GALA FOR 1938/39 SEASON
SATURDAY 24 SEPTEMBER 1938
@EMPIRE POOL & SPORTS ARENA, WEMBLEY
You are bidding for a rare original pre-WW2 Match Night Programme from the Challenge game between the Wembley Lions and the Wembley Monarchs, played on Saturday 24 September 1938 at the world famous Empire Pool and Sports Arena in Wembley.
This was the occasion of the Grand Ope...ning Gala for the 1938/39 season - the final one before World War 2 intervened! In addition to the ice hockey game, there were skating exhibitions from Master Tony Austin; Miss Shirley Tory; Master Hans Gerschweiler; Miss Cecilia Colledge; Bianca Schenk; Erna Charlotte and Baron Von Petersdorf, as well as Albert Enders and Sadie Cambridge, and a performance by Sydney Charlton - the Ski-ing Comedian!
The 20-page programme, features pen pictures of both the Wembley Lions and Wembley Monarchs players inside, and is in fantastic overall condition for an 80+year old programme, with the original staples still intact, but only slightly rusted. There are no scores or written notes on the central Team Sheet.
