Next Up: A beautiful antique French lace dress that came from a 14" doll that was on display at the Mid-Ohio Doll and Toy Museum that recently closed after 35+ years of operation in Canal Winchester Ohio.The dress is outstanding as you can see. I am not a lace expert but this lace looks to be hand made French Alencon or Point de gaze needle lace. Needle and bobbin laces were often named after the town or region where they were made such as Alencon France. When the lace industry was at... its peak as much as 30% of the total workforce in a town could be connected with lace. Now such an under appreciated art. This type of lace is hand made using needles to design the pattern on against a mesh background.So delicate as you can see in the enlarged photos. It is hard to imagine these antique laces being all done by hand. The time it must have taken!The dress is totally hand sewn and condition of the lace is amazing.The 2 layers of silk under skirting is the only area that shows age. The silk is melting in a few areas.It has a 2 snap closure in the back.I did add the pretty brown ribbon and it can easily be replaced with any color you choose.You just cannot find little dresses like this!!Defiently museum qualityReady to display on your little one.
