This listing is for a magnificent circa 1800's large four draw folding telescope. There is no makers marks but its design and construction is consistent with other instruments made in England through the 19th century. There is a name faintly engraved in the timber that reads as "G-- Rook", probably a previous owner.
This large telescope is constructed entirely in brass with a wooden mid section. Condition is very good overall and the telescope functions beautifully but there is a s...plit in the wooden tube section and a small chip in the main lens. Four draw refers to the sliding sections: there are four sliding sections contained within the outer tube. This telescope also has a glare shield that slides out over the mains lens.
I've included photos demonstrating the magnification but they don't do the image clarity much justice as they were just taken by holding my camera to the eyepiece.
Magnification is approximately 20x and the primary lens is 47mm across.
It measures a very impressive 960mm long when fully extended with the glare shield out.
Closed it is 260mm long and is 60mm in diameter.
It weighs approximately 1.15 kg.
