Item History & Price
Reference Number: Avaluer:8209839 |
Anthurium “rotolantei” is a very striking and rare, presu...mably terrestrialtropical aroid species, currently of unknown country of origin (but evidencesuggests southwestern Colombia). It was donated by an unknown party to theFairchild Tropical Botanic Garden more than 20 years ago. Recent collectionsfrom northern Ecuador by nurserymen there have unearthed a similar-lookingundescribed species. Its formaldescription is pending but the specific epithet will honor Dennis Rotolante, awell-known ornamental aroid grower and owner of Silver Krome Gardens inHomestead, Florida. It appears to be distantly related to the famous cloudforest Anthurium corrugatum, but thisspecies prefers warmer night temperatures and is far easier to grow than A.corrugatum. My plants are established offsets grown from old divisions ofthe original plants at Fairchild. This plant is very desirable because of itsvery attractive, deep green velvety, bullate leaves. It should excel in warm, shady interiorscapes and a sheltered spot in warm gardens. This species is alsoof easy pot culture for growers with space to allow the large leaves (to over 30”/75cm in length) to mature under intermediate to hot tropical conditions. It canhandle brief spells of overnight low temperatures at least into the high-40s Fwith no visible damage but should be considered “tropical”. It prefers good quality water and relativelyhigh humidity and responds well to frequent, dilute applications of balancedliquid fertilizers with micronutrients. Itmust be sheltered from wind. A fantastic species for growers working withpublic exhibits and tropical-themed vertical gardens. All plants offered are greenhouse grown on benches in the San FranciscoBay Area, California.Shipping: Plants will be shipped via USPS Priority Mail with trackingnumber for physical addresses within three working days of receipt of payment, weather permitting. 72 hour heat packs are available for an additional USD 6.00each.Wherever possible, plants will beshipped in plastic pots.
