Rare Silver Turtle Metal Detector
Turtle Corp. designed this water proof metal detector using a Tesoro search coil and Silver Sabre circuitry.The waterproof case was supplied by Ikelite, the manufacturer of high end underwater camera housings.The headphones were made and supplied by White's Electronics.
Those that have used a Tesoro Silver Sabre can attest to its famous performance. That's why the Turtle Corp. decidedon using the performance wise, dependable Tesoro Silver circuit... boards. The Silver Turtle was considered a favorite water detectorback in the day. Any many lusted about owning one.
The Silver Turtle is rare to find these days in even working condition.
I found this Silver Turtle, upon arrival, noticed some one tried repairing the circuit board. It worked finding a coin to about 1", discrimination circuit did not work.Just the worst hack up soldering job, repaired traces, bad wires, headphones worked on and off.
Instead of trying to repair the messed up circuit board, I replaced it with a perfectly working identical Tesoro Silver Sabre circuit board.Replaced the VLF/Disc toggle switch. Added a waterproof toggle boot. Replaced the waterproof seal and knob on the Sensitivity control.Added a copper ground plate to further combat any EMI that may show itself at some locations.New waterproof search coil connector and headphone connector were installed. No longer is the headphone and search coil hardwired permanently in place.Original search coil was not used, a newer brown 8" Tesoro search coil from a Tesoro Silver Sabre II, was used as a replacement.The headphones were found to have a short in the coiled cable section. It was replaced. The entire headband was also replaced.Operates on two 9 volt Alkaline batteries for extended run time but, will operate on one 9 volt battery.
Considerable time and effort went into refurbishing this detector..............................
This refurbished Silver Turtle works awesome, performance better than expected!!!
The new owner of this detector will need to furnish a handle system, the original had some issue and was discarded.Also the nylon webbing waist mount belt will be included but the snap buckle has been broken, it will need to be replaced.
Includes owner-operator manual. O-ring silicone lube.
Will include the original search coil, fittings and circuit board as I have no use for them.
