This "Remington" "No.5" upstorke typewriter was first produced in 1886, "Remington" are credited for founding the typewriter industry in 1873 and their "No. 2" model was the first commercially succesful typewriter.When the keys are depressed firmly, the type bars strike the platen, unfortunately, the carriage does move but is intermittent, it does turn well when the lever is lifted. Unfortunately, the paper table is missing.The internal leather belt may be a replacement.There are no c...racks or chips to the black painted body, however, there are areas of paint loss, mainly to the edges, space bar and corners.The gold lettering and detailing has retained a fair colour and is writing is legible.The plated metal parts do have a loss of nickel finish and there is also surface rust to them, I have tried to show the condition in the photographs.The key board has all of its' keys and these are undamaged, however, some are stained. When the keys are depressed firmly, the type bars strike the platen, unfortunately, the carriage does move but is intermittent, it does turn well when the lever is lifted. Unfortunately, the paper table is missing.

There are no cracks or chips to the black painted body, however, there are areas of paint loss, mainly to the edges, space bar and corners.
The gold lettering and detailing has retained a fair colour and is writing is legible.The plated metal parts do have a loss of nickel finish and there is also surface rust to them, I have tried to show the condition in the photographs.
The key board has all of its' keys and these are undamaged, however, some are stained.This is an early machine in need of some TLC to bring it back to its'full glory .
