Undated, we believe c1790. A popular Instructional work that ran through seventeen editions to 1823. This copy with a lengthy receipt in an early 19th century hand 'To make a dish of Currie after the Indian manner'. (see images)8vo, disbound in remains of period half calf over paper covered boards, upper board lacking, lower detached. Spine gilt ruled, lettered direct. The book measures 14cm by 21.5cm.The contents are complete, meeting collation: [2], 3-456, [24]pp, with the 12 copper engraved plates as called for, two of which are folding (one torn in two across fold). An old manuscript curry recipe to verso of plate at pp390.

Textblock is firm, contents fairy good if at best toned and at worst with heavy browning/spotting to title/frontis and around the plates, general thumbing and sporadic smudges and stains, one folding plate split/creased and the others ragged in places. Lower fly leaves torn with loss. Overall a fair copy, with an interesting early curry receipe in manuscript.
