Original Description:
 Fred H. BECKLEY, Handwritten Diary, 1875, Lee Center, Oneida County, New York.  This is the handwritten diary of Fred H. Beckley, who lived in Lee Center, New York.  The size is about 3 in. x 5 in. The diary itself is for the year 1874 but Fred has used it to record the events of his life from 9 April 1874 (presumably when he purchased the diary) through to the end of 1874.  He then began 1 January 1875 in the Memorandum pages and continued through 22 Jan...uary 1875. Then he goes to the beginning of the diary and gives entries for the period from 1 February 1875 to 29 April 1875.  It is a typical farmer’s pocket diary.  Some of the names mentioned are as follows: Ben Cross, Silas Cornish, Jasper Ferguson, John Ferguson, Daniel Countryman, Charles Pratt, John Castle, Dan Castle, and Robert Wilson.  The following are some of the entries: 12 April 1874, “Made about three quarts of molasses.”  14 April 1874, “The old sow had 7 pigs and the cat 5 kittens.”  16 April 1874, “The boys splitting wood.”  18 April 1874, “Barn burned down about 8 o’clock to knight [=tonight], 4 two-year-old heifers burned up in it.”  22 April 1874, “Had one lamb come last night.”  27 April 1874, “Doctor Nelson here to see Sophia, paid Doctor Nelson $2.65 c[en]ts.”  28 April 1874, “Daniel drawing wood and manure.”  30 April 1874, “Lewis Britain buried today.”  5 May 1874, “The boys mending fence.”  10 May 1874, “Lent James ninety dollars.”  12 May 1874, “Ben and Jay making board fence.”  15 May 1874, “David plowing the potatoe.”  22 May 1874, “Jay picked up stone and worked in the garden.”  30 May 1874, “David finished sowing oats.”  1 June 1874, “Jay cut his finger.”  6 June 1874, “Dan and Nan went to the [Lee] Center.”  8 June 1874, “Planted potatoes this afternoon.”  10 June 1874, “David and Jay to work on the road.”  11 June 1874, “David shearing sheep.”  20 June 1874, “Dan plowed this forenoon.”  21 June 1874, John H.
