Antique labor Ledger Boy & Girls MULE ROOM Textile Workers 1847-48 New Bedford ...
MULE ROOM pay ledger , 1847-1848 , It is very unusual , although young boys were known to work in Mule Rooms , this 40 page ledger also lists girls I did some reserach on some of the less common names , many came up in Massachusetts area , it could be from the New Bedford Cotton Mill ? I think if you cross reference enough names you'd be able to nail down location for sure Complete , but both covers detached , needs taped at spine The spinning mule is a machine used to spin cotton and other fibres. They were used extensively from the late 18th to the early 20th century in the mills of Lancashireand elsewhere. Mules were worked in pairs by a minder, with the help of two boys: the little piecer and the big or side piecer.
