2 'Perpetual' Diaries covering the period 1895-1912 [altough there is space there are no entries for 1893-94]
A fascinating insight into the day to day comings and goings of Rev Birkett who was a Missionary in Lucknow India and a Vicar in the Lake District.The space for entries being a perpetual diary covering several years is only small but the entries are still of intere...st recording meetings, preparations for activites and results of football and cricket matches most likley played by the mission school boys.There are notes on nightly high temperatures comments on the rain or lack there of and the coming and going of visitors, of train journeys and building work on a Hospital.
Also included [not yet photographed] are Rev Birketts letter of Orders appointing him Deacon [on vellum with seal] and his Missionary License [v worn almost spit into three pieces] appointing him Missionary Minister at Lucknow.+ a copy of Teaching Confirmation in Bhili - by A I Birkett - apparently unrecorded - this most likley is his own copy in a somewhat worn half calf leather binding [cloth faded and worn] interleaved with ruled blank pages - the text is printed Bhili+ a loose flier for a lecture on North India by Rev A I Birkett (who has been 7 years in Lucknow) with lime-light views (Appleton's Lantern) in the Assembly Rooms Church Missionary Society - free admission with a collection for the Lucknow Mission.
A unique and previously unrecorded collection of items - each measures approx 130mm x 200mm
