Induction coils have been used for high voltageexperiments and demonstrations, wireless transmitters, discharge tubes (X-Ray, Crookes, Geissler, spectrum, etc.) engine ignition, quack medical treatments(in a low-power form) and more. This is a BIG and heavy coil in excellent conditioncosmetically as well as working. Thebase measures about 9" x 19". It is Model ID-600 made by thewell-known Electro-Technic Products (ETP) company in Chicago, IL and marketed by We...lch Scientific Co. of Skokie, IL. It was the largest coil they used to make and was designed to produce a 6 inch spark. This coil was discontinued about 16 years ago and at the time sold new for about $750. According to EDP, the required input is 15-18 VDC with noload, 8-12 volts when running. A big 12volt battery works well, as well as the plug-in power supply included with thisauction and shown in the pictures. Itproduced 4 inch sparks using the power supply referenced above (see pictures). As a precaution, do not operate older coils (withaging insulation) such as this with a spark longer than this (you risk insulation breakdown and coil failure). They also should not be operated more than afew minutes at a time. It has binding posts for the DC input (polarity doesn'tmatter), an on/off switch, and a polarity-reversing switch. The HV electrodeson top have two holes each. The upper holes have thumbscrews for securingdischarge electrodes or HV output wires. The coil has a very nice walnut case. The interrupter is easily adjustable for optimumperformance and removable for cleaning and adjustment. Never try to move or pick up this coil by theelectrodes - this will damage the coil. They are not handles. This auction includes the coil, a pair of dischargeelectrodes, as well as the plug-in power supply
