Item History & Price
1955 PAILLARD BOLEX Model H16 16mm MOVIE CAMERA.
With 3 LENSES, ACCESSORIES, ORIGINAL CASE. WORKING WELL.
INTERESTING HISTORY - camera was in Vietnam in 1964
Just to be quite definite, as there's sometimes confusion:
This camera is a 16mm BOLEX: it has the 1" "C" lens mounts, the correct numbers in the Octometer, and doesn't have the film retaining parts in the winding mechanism that the 8mm cameras have (see photo).
It appears to have belonged to a Lt. Colonel in th...e U.S. Marines, who took it with him to Saigon in 1964. (This makes sense, as following on the Gulf of Tonkin incident, there was a big surge in U.S. troops deployed to Vietnam.) CONDITION
This 16mm PAILLARD BOLEX CAMERA #111159 appears to be working well. Tested at all speeds (8, 16, 24, 32 and 64 frames/sec), and by ear they sound pretty accurate. From full wind at 24 frames, runs for about 27 seconds and shows 630 frames, so pretty accurate too.
Body is extremely clean and the camera seems to have been well cared for, no marks or signs of damage. Slight chrome loss on top part of wind-on lever. Octometer starts at 50, and shows 50, 75, 100, 150, 16, 25, 35 in that order. Very clear and bright. The Eye-Level Focus is also bright and clear, just a few specs of dust. The Turret is working correctly, and clicks into place.
All LENSES have very clean glass, no cleaning marks, haze, fungus, just a little dust.
75mm YVAR is very clean, iris and focus smooth and easy to rotate. With front and rear caps, and hood.
25mm SWITAR also very clean, iris is free, focus is slightly heavier but is working.
17mm ZAKOR - the iris seems to be working correctly, but I'm not sure about the focus. It feels heavy & hard to turn. This lens may or may not be in working order—for purposes of bidding, assume not.
The CASE is original Bolex, quite good shape except the zip is partly detached at the front. The BOLEX BROCHURE has been repaired and is missing two intro pages, but there's plenty more good information.
ACCESSORIES includes three Kern-Palliard cases for lenses, etc, in very good condition. There's also a small winding handle, a blanking screw for the Trifocal finder, and a set of small Bolex filters in a box. There are three front lens caps and two rear lens caps.
I ship internationally.
