The Singer 12 Fiddlebase or New Family machine first came onto themarket in 1865 this one dates to the later part of the Victorian era circa 1887.Just 22 years after The American Civil War and the stitch is the same so if youare into authentic clothing this beauty is for you. Thisbeautiful Fiddlebase model 12 has spare bobbins and needles in one tin and loadsof extra feet as well as another box. There is also a super copy of the instructions.It is most unusual to find a model 12 in such fine condition, especially suchan early one. The lid looks as if it was once on a treadle and converted tohand-portable, something the shops regularly did for customers. The base hasthe three original locating clips if you do want to put it on to a treadle basefor treadle use. The machine is complete and guaranteed working, with samplestitching. Themachine serial number is 7637962-1900562 which I have dated to an amazinglyearly 1887. They say it was this model that made Isaac Singer a household nameand fabulously wealthy.
