OrnateAntique Silver Sewing Chatelaine English* 4 Attachments * Circa 1890s This ornatechatelaine is silver platedand dates to the late 19thcentury.The open filigree waistplaque is decorated with faces, griffins, scrolls and ram's heads. The matchingsilver linkchainshavefaces and springclips at theends. Thetoolshave repouseé scrolling face designs and include athimble bucket with thimble, a disc style pincushion, an aide memoir (notebook) and a penc...il.I think they are all original. The thimble bucket andpin cushion arelined with the original blue velvet. The thimbleis an early sterling clad Dorcas thimble by Charles Horner.Thecondition is excellent, crisp with no holes and isabout an American size 8 (15mm diameter opening). The aidememoir has 3 ivory colored"pages".The pencil twists out and has lead. Theconditionof the chatelaine & all of the attachments is excellent with nodents orotherdamage. The chatelainemeasures 13" long from top to bottom andhas a stronghinged clip onthe back. The clip is stamped "EPNS" for Electo Plated Nickel Silverand it has a crown which dates it before 1897. This mark was banned onsilverplated wares after that date as it too closely resembled theSheffield assay mark for sterling silver.
