Original Description:
An Old Plains Native American Indian Horse MaskRevservation period. Beads and two strips of hair on either side, possibly buffalo beard. Bear skin with trade cloth and commercial backing.Plains Native Bear Skin Horse Mask.The Native made masks were not physically protective, as most were made of buffalo hide or trade cloth and decorated with beadwork, quills, metal bells, paint and feathers…but this did make their horses look intimidating and fearsome on the battlefield. It is also s...aid the masks may have provided spiritual protection - each mask was decorated to reflect the medicine (or power) of the warrior.
On statue Mask is not tied. Mask measures approximate 31” x 24” at its largest dimensions.
