Here is an antique French tantalus box with gilt boulle and brass inlay and beautiful Baccarat decanters and glasses. The box when fully closed measures 11h by 14w by 11d inches or 28 by 35.5 by 28 cm. The tantulus box has undulating sides and two large cartouches with a scrolling design of acanthus leaves, coat of arms and a crown.The interior holds 4 Baccarat cut crystal decanters and matching cut crystal cordial wine glasses.Set includes 14 glasses, it is missing 2. The glasses and... decanters are further enhanced with heavy applied gold stars and scrolling grape vines around the necks. The box is a black ebonized wood veneer over solid wood. Condition: 2 glasses missing from the set and missing brass inlay throughout the piece. There is some chipping to the inlay and surface veneer. Some of the brass banding is lifting as well. There are two cracks in the wood base from age. One decanter has an edge bruise and one glass has a rim chip. The box itself need some restoration but is still presentable.
