AntiqueFigural Key NeedleThreader / Needle Case French* Circa1890 This veryunusual figural needle threader is one you don't see very often. It'sin the form of a key and the shank ismarked "BREVETE" and"S.G.D.G.". SGDGstands for "Sans garantie dugouvernement" andthese are the French patent markingsto indicate that the itemisprotected by apatent for technical specifications (rather than just design orcopyrightprotection). It also has the DEPOSE French mark... for design copyright. The fancy bowincorporates an "M" into the design and I'm assuming that indicates themanufacturer. The bit ismarked5, 6, 7 & 8. These are the standard needle sizes of the day.Theneedle fits eye down into a channel at the top of the bow and thethread ispushedthrough the funnel hole in the side (into the eye) and it really works. The shank is also a needle case. It measures 2 5/8" long.
