1240 Illuminated Bible Leaf Exquisite Miniature Jeremiah, God & Seething Pot

for a detailed view.This is a leaf from a medieval manuscript Bible; Paris, France - circa 1250; in Latin and on Vellum (198 x l35mm). There are two columns of text with fifty-six lines of Gothic Textualis script, Book Headings, Chapter Numbers in red and blue ink. This leaf contains the end of Isaiah, Chapter 66, St Jerome's Prologue to Jeremiah and Jeremiah, Chapters I & II. A large twelve-line capital "V" is in a brilliant burnished gold backgroun...d and is finished in blues, white and pink. Inside the cavity of the initial is a miniature of Jeremiah, being Visited by God for a second time with the "seething pot" pointed towards the north. Jeremiah 1, 13 " And the word of the Lord came unto me the second time, saying, What seest thou? And I said, I see a seething pot; and the face thereof is toward the north. "In the leaf-hand column is a flourished initial "E", in blue ink with lovely pen work in red ink. The verso fifty-six lines of double Gothic Textualis script, Book Headings, Chapter Numbers in red and blue ink. There is a twenty-one line initial "I", for leronimus or Jerome, indicating the beginning of Jerome's Prologue. The initial is in cobalt blue and pen and reveals a delightful zoomorphic creature in shades of green and pink with accents of gold. A five-line initial "H" in blue ink with pen work in red ink complete the leaf. This is a scarce leaf and will be appreciated by all. Condition of this leaf is fine [F].
