RARE OCCUPATIONAL TINTYPE - FIVE RAILROAD MEN & RAILWAY PUMP-CAR, LUNCH BUCKETS & TOOLS - IN NEAR MINT CONDITION THERMOPLASTIC CASE - Whether you are a collector of occupational tintypes or a veteran collector of Railroadiana this is an extremely rare image of five hard working men who helped establish one of the railways during the 19th Century. The sixth plate is packed with historical information; from the type of clothing these men wore to their daily jo...b, to their lunch buckets and some of their hand tools of their trade. The photographer was obviously standing on a platform of some type when he captured their portrait all standing aboard a wonderful pump-car. Each man sports a wide brimmed hat to help shade themselves during a long day of hard labor. My hunch is the bearded man in the middle is the crew foreman. This historical tintype symbolizes and epitomizes the efforts of the men who helped create the railways across America during Western Expansion. The image is beautifully preserved in a mint condition thermoplastic Union case and will display wonderfully in your collection, should you be the winning bidder. CONDITION: Please view my detailed photos for the actual condition of the image and as part of my description. The sixth plate contains superb contrast, tonal range and sharpness. The nearly pristine tintype is well composed and contains many historical details. The Union case is in near mint condition, with tight hinges & the working clasp. The only minor flaws I can find are very minor corner chip, a super fine hairline at the clasp and a bit of wear or fading to the velvet pillow.
