The Descent from the Cross, with minature and foliate borderOriginal 15th c. (likely French) leaf from a manuscript Book of Hours. 16 lines of text written in Latin on animal vellum in brown ink. Verso with 16 lines of text and miniature of dragon (?)Measurements:

The Descent from the Cross, within a foliate border, verso with 16 lines of text and foliat...e borderIlluminated initial and other decorations in burnished gold with delicate penwork throughout . Beautiful, sensitive rendering of figures and landscape, with waht appears to be an image of Satan (?) emerging from the anus of a bore at bottom border, recto. The panel borders contain a highly decorative floral design with flowers, berries, and acanthus leaves in blue, red, green, pink, and burnished gold.
Leaf floated in 305 x 355mm -- 12 x 13 3/4 frame.
