Item History & Price

Information:
Reference Number: Avaluer:6797735Model: EMT 250 Digital Reverb
Type: Vintage Effect ProcessorCountry/Region of Manufacture: Germany
Original Description:
Affectionately nicknamed "R2D2", the EMT 250 was released in 1976 and really was a revolution in the audio industry at that time. The 250 has a superb and unequaled sound. There were only 250 of the 250’s built, and they sold for about $20, 000 each. It continues to be used in hit songs every day and can be heard on the chorus of Michael Jackson's "Man In The Mirror".
This particular unit has been part of many great sessions including: Quincy Jones, Whitney Houston, Dwight Yoakam,... George Duke, John Fogerty, Chicago, Earth Wind and Fire, Michael Jackson, Barry Manilow, Gladys Knight, Natalie Cole, Toto and many more. It's currently the most sought after digital reverb in the world.
The one we have for sale is in very good working as well as aesthetic condition and has been expertly serviced to assure quality for buyer. Capacitors replaced, pc board repaired, and some memory chips installed have the unit back to the original specifications.
These are risky to ship and it should be picked up in person in the Los Angeles, CA  area, where it is in a custom case and ready to go. The unit is 2 1/2' high, 1 1/2' wide and 8" deep 100 lbs. I would suggest bringing a truck, a couple of friends and a 2 wheeler dolly.
The EMT 250 was introduced by EMT Technical Director Karl Otto Bäder in 1976 at the Zürich AES Convention. Designed to be an alternative to the EMT 140 plate reverb systems that were enormous by comparison and required strict isolation to avoid sympathetic resonances, the EMT 250 offered a new sound in a relatively compact, easy-to-use package. The digital hardware portion of the EMT 250 project was farmed out to Ralph Zaorski through a Massachusetts electronics company by the name of Dynatron. MIT professor Barry Blesser was hired to perform the algorithm design. Karl-Otto Bäder was then instrumental in moving the project from the research phase into the product phase, and also performed the listening and voicing for the EMT 250.
