This lovely rare "The Gresham" hand sewing machine were manufactured by the "Gresham & Craven" of Manchester, England.The company manufactured sewing machines between 1875 to 1884.The machine has retained much of its' lovely original gilt and coloured decoration and it still has a good depth of colour.The base has "The Gresham, Manchester" to both sides of the base. The black japanning has worn a little in places, mainly, to the edges of the bed. The casting to the arm and base are st...ill crisp and clean and there are no chips or cracks.The exposed metal work does show signs of surface rust blemishes in places. Particularly to one corner of the cloth plate.The cloth plate is stamped with "Patented March 1867, Gresham & Craven, Manchester" and the serial number is "22326"The shuttle and bobbin are present.The wooden handle does have surface cracks but is sturdy and is well attached.The machine does turn with a good action. The company manufactured sewing machines between 1875 to 1884.

The base has "The Gresham, Manchester" to both sides of the base.
