Presented for your consideration is this intriguing antique masonic apron. The apron is made of silk with several masonic symbols printed on the silk in both color and black and white. Shown are a trowel, an hourglass, Jacob's ladder, a bee hive, two suns, two pillars and the Eye of God. To the left of one pillar is a sword pointing to a heart. This symbol was invented by a Mason by the name of Thomas Smith Webb, who popularized the American version... of Freemasonry known as the York Rite in the early 1800s. He invented several other Masonic symbols and motifs and had a profound impact on Masonic rituals in America at the time. This apron is believed to have been used in Masonic rituals/ceremonies. These symbols were possibly a code for when masons met in secret. All of the symbols on the apron are visible and clear. The silk appears to be free of rips and tears. It has been framed in a nice wooden frame with gold colored trim around the inner edge. Dates to the mid-1800s and guaranteed to be antique and original. This very interesting framed apron would make a fantastic addition to any masonic memorabilia collection or would look great hanging in a masonic lodge!
The original fringe that would have been on the outer edges is missing. A small light brown stain is near the left pillar and also near the Eye of God as well. Appears to be free of rips and tears. Very light frame wear. Overall in VERY GOOD condition. Please refer to the photos for the absolute best details.
Apron alone measures 15 1/4" wide and 18 1/2" long. Entire item measures 17 1/4" wide and 20" long.
