This is a large, No. 6 black hard rubber (BHR) Montblanc Compressor filler (these were similar to the early Chilton patent), based on pneumatic pump. Montblanc patented this filling system in 1923 to replace the lever filler but... although technologically advanced and easy to use, the Compressor was not a success and the pump and compressor filling systems were discontinued shortly after they were launched.These days Montblanc Compressors are really unusual and tough to find in any condition and they are highly prized by collectors - the No. 6 is not only a larger model but very few of these pens are known to exist. The pen was made of ebonite (BHR) with white cap top made of galalith and metal compressor filler. The early Montblanc pens had a clipless design and accommodation clips were an optional accessory. This pen comes with a modern sterling silver clip in the form of a snake – this motif was often seen on many iconic Montblanc pens in the 1920s and has been replicated on the modern lines, including the Agatha Christie LE and the current Heritage collection.

Item condition:Fine condition, some rubs and light scuffs to barrel and cap; the ebonite has a bit of vintage patina; there is personalisation to the barrel in two places as pictured and cap lip has been repaired/replaced. The repair is hardly visible but it's there. The barrel imprint show some wear but they are still legible.
The filling system has been restored and works as designed.
Filling system:
To fill, unscrew the barrel end and extent the filler tube. Immerse the nib and section edge in ink bottle and cover the vent hole at barrel end. Push the filler tube back in and release the vent hole - the system will draw ink into the ink reservoir.
