VINTAGE Mexican Carved Wood Relief Wall ART by Roberto De La Selva Signed 1936 VINTAGE Mexican Carved Wood Relief Wall ART of 2 peasant farmers working - by ROBERTO DE LA SELVA, signed 1936. ...Tiny brass plate on bottom of frame reads "Tallado por Roberto De La Selva" Pencil inscription on back reads: "Procured in Oaxaco Mexico August 16, 1936 ..."some of the writing is not decipherable.(see photo). Nicagaguan-born (1895-1957), Roberto De La Selva moved to Mexico City in 1921 in protest against U.S. Military occupation ...and stayed in Mexico for the rest of his years. His message was to honor indigenous people, the working class and folk art -- he worked in dense white mahogany producing bas-relief panels, blending the traditional & modern and social spirit of post revolutionary Mexico.Roberto De La Selva was an associate of Diego Rivera and the brother of poet Salomon de La Selva.Weight: 2.3 lbs.Measures: 13.5" tall/high x 11.5" wide x 1" deep.Condition: Age appropriate wear.
