SUPER RARE 1/4 PLATE AMBROTYPE - MOTHER BREASTFEEDS HER CHILD IN FAMILY PORTRAIT - In this case, you will not find a beautifully composed portrait of a mother holding her child and sharing a tender bonding moment, but more likely a mother who posed with her husband, her older child and an infant who was simply hungry the moment this Ambrotypist was ready to capture their portrait. I would say, her discrete breastfeeding was a matter of urgency and a convenient way to sooth her chi...ld in this particular instance. One thing is for sure, this nicely tinted family portrait remains extremely rare. I have only seen two or three other hard plate examples where a woman was breastfeeding. The image is tucked into a very unusual quarter plate case with a bold five point star motif on both sides of the exterior.
