This is a large poster, mounted on light weight canvas, showing the Al Saud family tree as it existed in the time of King Faisal (early 1970s). Acquired in Jidda 1973. The item is 41 inches wide and slightly over six feet in length., It could be framed and mounted on a wall. King Faisal is represented by a green circle near the top, with his children branching off on both sides, with branches below Faisal showing other branches of the family. When I... worked in Saudi Arabia I used this chart to make small penciled notations as I met or learned about members of the royal family. In many cases I noted the government or private position they held at the time, 1973-75. I have now erased most of these notations, but on close examination it can be seen that there were previously a few words written by the apples or pears representing the men or women on the tree. In a few cases I have left the notations where the designation helps identify someone of particular importance, such as "Governor of Riyadh" by the name of Prince Salman, now the current King, or "Vice Moda" by Prince Turki, who was Deputy Minister of Defense in the early 1970s. These remaining notations are in light pencil and could be erased. This item should be of interest to anyone wanting to study the family tree of the Al-Saud family as it existed in 1969.
