Ifound this beautiful machine at an estate sale here in Maine many years ago andhad planned to restore it someday, but I’ve run out of space, so it’s time topass it on to some other collector who will finish the job. It’s a 1905 Columbia BI “Sterling” DiscGraphophone phonograph in completely original condition. I will note up front that it is missing itsturntable and reproducer, both of which are readily available on Ebay andelsewhere; everything else is there, in...cluding the turntable dust ring, whichis usually missing on these. The BI wasColumbia’s most iconic phonograph, known for its beautiful quarter-sawn oakcase and striking 9-panel, 22-inch nickel-plated morning glory horn, which is oftenmissing as well, and typically in poor condition when it is present; this one, as you can see from the pictures, is in very fine shape indeed. You can tell that this is a very earlyexample of the BI because it still has the ornate carrying handle, as well asan early-style Columbia crank. Thetwo-spring motors on these are known to be strong enough to play severalrecords; I haven’t cranked this one up, as I don’t like to do so beforecleaning the motor and inspecting the springs. If you’ve always wanted one of these in completely original, unrestoredcondition but despaired of finding one – almost all of them are already in thehands of collectors who have done their own restorations already – then this isyour lucky day; you will look for a long time before finding another. Best of all, I offer it here with NO RESERVE –high bidder takes it! Iwill ship this phonograph ONLY within the United States. If you live elsewhereand are interested in it, please contact me before bidding so we can discussthe shipping charges, which can be very expensive outside the U.S. I ship oncea week (whenever possible). Having received, over the years, some items thatdid not survive shipping, I always take care to pack very carefully. If youprefer, I will be happy to drop it off at a nearby UPS store and have itprofessionally packed and shipped at your expense. I reserve the right to raiseor lower the shipping charges should they prove to be significantly differentthan those determined by the shipping calculator. (PLEASE NOTE: If you want the horn shipped separately –which I STRONGLY recommend if you want to make sure it reaches you in goodshape – there will be an extra shipping cost for that.) I reserve the right to refuse sale to anyonewith excessive negative feedback or an otherwise suspicious history. Payment isdue within three (3) days of the auction's close. Due to its age I am sellingthis item without any warranty. All sales are final. I am not a dealer, anddon’t have a big operation with a staff, so I would appreciate your patiencewhile I take the time to pack your items with the care they deserve. Besure to see all the pictures! I'll be happy to answer any questions you may have, but please try to ask as early as possible, as it sometimes takes me a while toget to my email. Please see my other listings, as I am running out of space andam thinning out my collection considerably. I have several fine items up onEbay right now, and will be listing many more in the weeks and months to come, so please keep checking. Good luck and happy bidding!
