RARE VNTG LORD Of RINGS HOBBIT DWARF CHARACTER PIN ARKENSTONE YELLOW CAP TOLKIEN
Item History & Price
Reference Number: Avaluer:549946 | Modified Item: No |
Country/Region of Manufacture: United States |
Extremely rare vintage figural pin.
Probably 1940s, but possibly 1930s or 1950s.
Over 2-1/2"
Enameled Dwarf smiling because he found or recovered the fabled Arkenstone
Here, it is a large, faceted purple oval stone of glass or acrylic.
Because his hood or cap is yellow, that threw us off re: identity. The cap has a loop for a missing tassel, so we thought maybe it was King Thorin, but he evidently wore a blue hood. Hobbits like yellow, so we thought maybe Bilbo Bag...gins? Or is it Balin -- or a different Dwarf who wore yellow?
Yellow cap has cross-hatch marks. As noted, tassel is missing.
Other enameling is red, including the tip of his nose. Some of the enamels are missing, but overall very good especially for age.
Rhinestones on cuff are all there but one (just noticed).
Also included photos of two actual 'arkenstones' in order to show the resemblance.
As fans already know (sketching this for jewelry lovers who don't know the story), the dragon Smaug stole the precious Arkenstone, and Thorin and the Dwarves set out to recover it, along with the Hobbit.
This brooch springs from the book(s), not the later movies.
A great collector piece for either vintage-figural-jewelry collectors or Tolkien fans.
