This piece is clearly produced by a lacquer master as there are multiple techniques employed, predominantly gold Maki-e lacquer on the outside and dense gold Nishiji on the inside. The detailing is nothing short of museum quality and this box would likely have taken weeks or even months of work to produce a piece this standard. There is a gold diamond flanked by butterflies inside the lid which I suspect may be a makers mark, however I have been unable to find another example online. It dates to the Meiji period, circa 1850 - 1890 I believe.
This is a good sized box at 16cm long x 6cm tall. Excellent overall condition, just a couple of very tiny chips to the rim and the odd scuff / mark. This will be sent tracked and signed for.
