Knife, Vintage John Nelson Cooper Custom Handmade Bowie/Hunter. Cooper began making knives as a hobby in 1924. This knife was made while Cooper was working as a welder in the Virginia shipyards prior to moving to Burbank Ca. In 1965. Cooper used stock removal to form his blades & a new method of construction, which he patented, that made the handle into a solid, bonded unit using welding, brazing & epoxy to eliminate deterioration from moisture intrusion. The 10” clip point blade, 3 ...& 3/4” double guard & butt plate with grommet hole offset the dark epoxy handle with brass rings to complete the 14 & 3/4” beauty(see pic.). Ships with a custom made, double stitched, snap style, brown leather belt sheath not original to the knife. Coopers’ skill reflected in this bowie/hunter shows why his knives were collected by celebrities & movie producers for Jeremiah Johnson & others. This is a one of a kind, early, quality piece by a founding member of the Knife Makers’ Guild for your collection or use. I only ship within the continental USA excluding California and I do not combine shipping.
