GIA CERTIFIED - RARE CHINESE ANTIQUE
FINELY CARVED WHITE HE-TIAN (MUTTON FAT) NEPHRITE JADE STATUE
SEVEN MONKEYS / PEACHES GROTTO MOUNTAIN CARVING
- Estimated 19th Century, possible earlier.
Masterfully hand carved on all sides as seven monkeys clambering around some gnarled fruiting peach branches surrounding a mountain grotto, this statue is a very unique and highly valued piece of collection.
The large stone is a natural white untreated He-Tian Ri...ver Nephrite Jade boulder.
The solid white stone is mottled with pale translucent white areas. (The natural "Mutton Fat" color, very rare to find nowadays)
A few natural superficial fissures in the material. Per GIA experts, these are not considered damage because this type of “cleaving veins” occur naturally in the stone over a long period of time.
(Also "perfect uniform white" color on a stone of this dimmensions would denote artificial or chemically treated, contemporary jade.)
This piece is part of a private collection, comes with GIA certificate
and a custom ordered (first half of XXth Century) collector box.
My grandparents had strong ties with China and the Chinese Art during the beginning and mid XXth Century. In that period they have aquired and collected many important pieces (from archaic times to early Republic), later brought back to Europe and now here in US
Afterwards, they kept collecting Chinese Art and Antiques via private Estate sales and European auction houses.
I am planning to list for sale and or/auction more than 20 items from their collection.
