DESCRIPTION.We have here for your consideration a beautifully executed original 19th century English School maritime painting depicting ...sailboats shipping under challenging weather conditions. It's a real quality oil on canvas that carries a sense of charisma, deriving from the excellent brushwork shown in capturing the momentum of the waves.
The work is in a good antique condition. The canvas remains unlined and shows light toning overall. There is a small area with some scuffs and minor paint loss towards the upper right corner, also a small area of possible retouching in the upper centre sky area. Other minor marks also exists, while craquelure can be seen throughout. The frame is a nineteenth century antique piece, good overall condition with with losses to details in the middle areas of each side, along with a light degree of accumulated dirt and surface wear.
