Antique American Buffalo Horn Scrimshaw, Circa 1720.
DescriptionA rare and early American buffalo horn scrimshaw, dating to circa 1720.This may have been a powder horn, but it appears to be incomplete now.The front of the horn features a very well executed portrait of King George IGeorge I was king of Great Britain and Ireland for 13 years, between 1714 - 1727.The rear of the horn shows a patch where a name plate seems to have been removed.Given the origin of the horn, this... piece is presumed to have originated in the USA.A very unusual and early piece.
ConditionIn good antique condition with expected wear.Some surface wear and blemishes throughout.One area looks to have been gnawed by something (pic. 8).A name plate (or similar) seems to be missing (pic. 7).Part of the metal mount is presumably missing.Scrimshaw is in very good condition.
