This aluminium "Featherweight Blick" portable typewriter dates from around 1906.In 1891, George C. Blickensderfer (1850-1917) invented a small portable writing machine that featured the ability to change type styles at will, with an interchangeable type head. This unique design formed the basis of a typewriter manufacturing business that lasted almost thirty years.The machine has the usual scuffs, scratches and use marks that you would associate with a machine of this age, I can't fin...d any splits or cracks to the aluminium body, however, the nickel plating around the keys, swinging arm, rule and paper table do show loss of finish some signs of surface.The applied copper plaque on the front of the machine has "Aluminium Featherweight Blickensderfer, 9 & 10 Cheapside, London, Made in U.S.A." impressed in to it.The serial number is 163563.The lettering, numbers, etc to the keys are clear and legible, all have their celluloid covers, a few have a little staining. The keys work, the type-wheel revolves and hits the ink roller. The carriage moves along and the bell has a pleasing ding.
