THIS IS A CHARITY AUCTION!
The charity aim of this auction is to raise enough money to help the family of Sean Shepard, specifically his daughter and husband who must fly to attend their father's funeral. Sean passed away a few days ago from cancer. He was an avid SF&F collector and reader, he loved discussing all sorts of things online, and he was always there to listen to others when they needed an ear. I had the honor of meeting him several times, the last time when he visite...d Seattle, WA looking for a second medical opinion and other treatment options. I promised him last year that I would do whatever was in my power to help him. Now, that promise will be further upheld for his family with this auction. The family needs another $700. I think we can raise that! And if this auction goes over that amount, the extra funds will be donated to the Grim Oak Shield non-profit charity foundation that helps authors and artists with medical debt.

Up for auction today is a rare book, one that is not published yet. A few months ago, I finished a new SF&F adult/YA novel titled The Tempered Steel of Antiquity Grey. It is currently being read by several different agents and NYC publishers have requested full manuscripts of the book. It is a second draft though, one I'm proud of but it will likely change when it is edited professionally. That said, Sean read the first 60 pages of it several months ago and he was surprised to find that I had tuckerized him in it (used his name for a character). As a cancer survivor myself, I felt I owed it to him and the battle he fought. I can think of no better way to honor him and help his family right now than to raise money with the book he had read -- a book that contains a form of his name.
The galley will be printed on standard paper and bound, with a clear sheet over its top. It will include the Marc Simonetti artwork that you see in the pictures. I will sign it to the winner of the auction -- and personalize if they like. Only one of these will ever be produced, making it a rare item.

A tuckerization is when an author takes a person's name and places it into their book or short story. The winning bidder will be able to choose to have their tuckerization placed in The Tempered Steel of Antiquity or the sequel to The Dark Thorn, titled The Everwinter Wraith. Good luck!
